A domain name is an important part of your identity both online and offline. We recommend a "multiple domain name" strategy. One domain name is for branding, which is your professional identify. This could be based on your name, the name of your dental group, or a catchy domain name that you are sure to remember like "DDS.com." This is used on all printed materials and for other marketing purposes. The second domain name is based on an SEO friendly search term to increase search engine visibility. You can have more than two and use the others for micro-websites and/or for defensive purposes. If you own it, then the competition can't. We own DMD.com but it redirects to DDS.com. To learn more, scroll down this page or click a link to go directly to that section of the page. These are called bookmarks, and they are a feature of the Web Wizard.
Based On Your Name
Examples: www.EleanorGill.DMD.com, www.GattiDDS.com, and www.GinsburgSmiles.com.
Dr. Gill uses a sub-domain of DMD.com, and Dr. Gatti, and Dr. and Dr. Ginsburg use a top level domain name. A top level domain name has one dot in the name, and a sub-domain has two dots in the domain name. You can use any sub-domain of DDS.com or DMD.com for free, or you can use any domain name that you currently own or has yet to be registered. Using your name, reinforces your "brand" each time someone types the domain name in a browser, or sees it in print.
Based On Your Business Name
Examples: www.DentalArtsGroup.com and www.SmilesDental.com.
Using your business name, reinforces your business brand each time someone types the domain name in a browser, or sees it in print.
Based On Search Engine Term
Example: www.CosmeticDentistFranklin.com
If your domain name is based on a search term, your website will have better search engine visibility. An example would be the name of your city/town followed by dentist or cosmetic dentist.com.
Three domain example: www.AndrewWongDDS.com, www.DentistAlhambra.com, www.CosmeticDentistAlhambra.com
Dr. Wong uses his professional name for his branding, which includes all printed pieces such as business cards, appointment reminders, statements, etc., and he uses a domain name based on a search term to maximize search engine visibility. We registered all three domain names for him. He is able to promote his "professional brand," AndrewWongDDS.com, which is based on his name, and he gains maximum search engine visibility by having the search engines see CosmeticDentistAlhambra.com. Search engines see the three domain names as one website at CosmeticDentistAlhambra.com. We don't create three different websites; we just create one and through the use of programming, all website visitors are redirected to the most SEO friendly domain name.
Domain Name Registration Service
We can register any domain name that you desire as long as it is still available. Domain names can be registered for up to 10 years, which is what we recommend since it is one less thing to have to deal with on an annual basis. The registration fee is $20 per year and it can be charged to your card on file.
Domain names can be registered one of three ways, and the choice is up to you. No matter which one you choose, you are the owner of the domain name.
-
Using Digital Dental Strategies, Inc., which is our company name
-
Using your name
-
Using private registration
Registration requires a name, address, email address, and phone number. If it is listed under your name, you will get junk mail and spam but you will be 'listed' as the owner. If it is under our name, then we get the spam and junk mail, which we already receive. Using private registration means the information is not publicly available but it adds an additional $20 per year to the cost of the registration. Under all three scenarios, you are the full owner of the domain and retain full rights. It is simply a matter of choice and it makes no difference to us. If it is initially registered under Digital Dental Strategies, Inc. and you want it registered under your name, send us an email from the main doctors email account, and it will be changed within 24 hours. If it is initially registered under Digital Dental Strategies, Inc. and you want the domain name transferred off our servers, email us from the main doctors email account with the request, we will then send a reply via email with an attached from, the doctor needs to sign and date the form and return the form to use via email or via fax, transmit the fax to 310.246.1228. After the proper request has been received, the domain name transfer process will begin within 24 hours.
Proper domain name registration is extremely important. Please click the following link to learn more about DNS, WHOIS and Registrant information. If the registrant part of the domain name registration is not done properly, the domain name ownership can be in dispute, which is never good. Please click the following link to read about a domain name registration nightmare that took a few days for us to resolve. If it wasn't resolved, any website at that domain name would have been offline until 2017.
Here are examples of the type of junk mail the "domain name owner" will likely receive. If you don't want to deal with this, then we suggest that domain names be registered in our company name. |
