After growing up in the Los Angels area, Dr. Rich Hirschinger went to Tulane University and then to the University of Southern California School of Dentistry. He practiced
dentistry for 10 years, including a successful practice in Beverly
Hills. But an injury from an accident put an end to his ability to
practice dentistry.
After selling his practice, Rich went back to school, this time to the USC Marshall School of Business to earn an MBA. It was during his MBA program that he developed the concept of creating websites for his fellow dentists. At the time, websites were mostly controlled by professional technology people, and one had to pay a fee just to have simple changes made to a website. Rich decided that dentists, who are accustomed to having control in their operatories, should have more control over their own websites, thus DDS.com was born.
Following his decision to start DDS.com, Rich performed research on what patients would like to see in a dental website, and what he would like to see as a practicing dentist. The company's first website product was developed as a result of this research, and much of the content was written by Rich himself. Over 10 years later, websites form the core of the DDS.com product offering, which has expanded into social media, blogs, and search engine optimization.
